Digital Inclusion: Transforming Education through Technology

The increased ubiquity of the Internet, Open Educational Resources (OER), MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses) – these innovations are rapidly changing access to education at scale around the world. However, even as opportunities for quality education continue to grow, unfortunately, not all of these technologies are evenly distributed. Considering this, the MIT LINC 2016 conference has selected Digital Inclusion: Transforming Education through Technology as this year’s theme.

The focus of the LINC 2016 conference is on new and innovative applications of digital learning technologies in a variety of learning settings around the world, especially in developing countries. We seek papers that address novel and challenging ideas in digital learning and/or report on real applications with concrete results. In particular, we invite submissions that address and examine the widely expanding global reach of digital learning technologies, and the implications for adoption and application by teachers and learners throughout the world.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Providing Quality Education at Scale:online education and open educational resources, capacity building, teacher development
  • Bridging the Education Divide: gender, international differences
  • Theories and Practices of Learning: learning engineering, cognitive psychology, learning from games, creating a digital curriculum, blended learning
  • Developing Tools for the Digital Learning Experience: learning technologies, content modules, games, communications technologies, social-technical innovations
  • Recognizing the Role of Digital Learning for Students of All Ages: pre K-12, professional education, continuing education

The conference seeks to bring the community closer to realizing LINC’s credo: “With today’s computer and telecommunications technologies, every young person can have a quality education regardless of his or her place of birth or wealth of parents.” But, can we truly make this happen? What are the chief barriers to educational access? What are the key success stories and lessons learned?

Digital inclusion provides a framework for a meaningful discussion about access, adoption and application, allowing speakers and presenters to share their views on the key technological, social and cultural challenges we face in digital education. We invite you to join this community of scholars and practitioners who have been sharing technology-enabled educational innovations at LINC conferences since 2003.
